Today, Jonathan Gold features K-Town's Chunju Han Il Kwan as his pick of the week. That is the same down home Korean restaurant featured on this blog on May 24, 2008. Who'd have thunk this could ever happen - we get to a place before Jonathan Gold does. I'm dumbstruck. Ritesh - you get the credit for this one!!
For those of you who are not familiar with the illustrious Jonathan Gold - he is our very own resident LA food critic, and Pulitzer Price winner to boot. Apparently, he's the only food writer to have won a Pulitzer. He has a regular column called Counter Intelligence in the LA Weekly, and a book by the same title on amazon. And he's not just a good writer, he's a fearless eater, too. Leave the five-star French eateries of Beverly Hills to someone else, Jonathan Gold is out chronicling the "real" LA in all it's ethnically diverse glory, from Mexican taco trucks and Burmese strip mall joints to Syrian Islamic brunches and Ecuadorean or Peruvian holes in the wall serving parts of animals you'd sometimes rather not know existed. If you read this blog a couple of months ago, you may remember a 54 mile journey we undertook for a $7 bowl of Taiwanese noodles (that's 27 miles each way to Rosemead) - that bowl of noodles came recommended by Jonathan Gold, and it was definitely worth it. So yes, eating your way through LA in his wake is one thing, but hitting a place before he does is something else...
