Tues, Dec 30 - Utah, Colorado, New Mexico

7.24am - another sunrise over Monument Valley, from our hotel room7.54am - an Earl Grey soy latte, saying good-bye to the West Mitten (left) and the East Mitten (right)
8.45am - Ritesh got to the restaurant first and ordered me the French toast. Alas, he did not order the CRUNCHY French Toast w/cornflakes. This was cause for considerable tension and dispute for about a minute, but we survived.
Ritesh's oatmeal, which he says was nowhere near as good as the one I make at home. He kind of had to say that, didn't he, after the French Toast incident. Truth is though, oatmeal does taste a lot better if you boil it in some kind of milk (rice, almond, soy, hemp) instead of water...
The Denver omelette, shared w/ Ritesh.
and on the road again... Monument Valley is technically already in Utah, so from there on we went north, and then east...
and at some point ended up in stunning Colorado (hi Laura!) ... sorry for the bad midday light.
a fuji in front of some foothills of the Rocky Mountains
and finally, in a small town by the name of Mancos, Colorado, we came upon a tiny health food store called Zuma that served a small but freshly home made lunch! We were in heaven! We had grown quietly despondent over the canned food situation over the last few days, so a simple, wholesome, home cooked meal was just what the doctor ordered.
This was an incredibly delicious vegetable soup with some pork sausage crumbled in...
and their fresh veggie tamales. This was all they had, but it was fabulous.
Oh, they did have a fresh hot chocolate made w/ steamed almond milk, too! Thank God for Colorado!!
Some wild rice and sesame sticks from Zuma, while leaving Mancos in direction of New MexicoAztec Ruins - actually a misnomer, they're Ancient Puebloan ruins, too. But very cool either way.
4pm - some super-tasty chipotle peanuts from Zuma (we stocked up at that place - you never know what's in store for you when you travel...). That's a huge Christmas tree on the right, btw.

The moon and Venus over New Mexico. Taken with the iPhone, so no idea what time it was.

9.15pm - Duck fat fries w/three fabulous dips, at Joseph's Table inside the famed La Fonda de Taos Hotel, in Taos, NM - the furthest destination on our trip. From here on, everything is going to be on the way back to LA.
9.20pm - Kale salad (my half) w/shallots, leeks, and a warm tomato vinaigrette, plus my sake-thyme cocktail, at Joseph's Table
Cool chandelier over the bar. Effeminate, says Ritesh...
9.28pm - East-Indian Spinach soup w/ ground rice - my order, as I was sure Ritesh would hate it (he's not one to favor pseudo-Indian restaurant food), but lo and behold, he loved it and finished it
9.28pm - This was Ritesh's order that I ended up finishing: hot&sour soup w/ duck dumpling. Nice and spicy, and sweet, too. Too sweet, says Ritesh. Ah well. I enjoyed it.
