At Rajdhani:
Their signature fabulous wagon-wheel sized Gujarati veggie thali
At Zaffran:
jal jeera (literally means cumin water, but is really more like a limeade w/ cumin, very refreshing)
this doesn't look like much but it was great: tandoori fruit chaat - pieces of pineapple, custard apple and sweet potato marinated in a spicy sauce and baked in the tandoor. Delicious!
Ritesh's daal on the left, and my super-creamy Bengali prawn curry on the right. These were not that great, so we were glad we had filled up on the appetizers.
At Bharat Excellensea, w/ Sanjib, Pinky, Swayam, aunt and uncle, and Ritesh.
Sanjib, the chef, had recommended this place and was doing most of the ordering, so we're pretty sure we got some of the best things off the menu. Our only wish was to try things we'd never had before, and we did... this is a surmai fry (fried whole king fish)
Again something that doesn't look like much but is totally fabulous: This is Kori rotti - a festive Mangalorean dish, which consists of red chili-and-coconut-based chicken curry served on top of crispy dry bread made from rice flakes. As wikipedia informs me, kori rotti is a traditional dish of the Tuluvas (Tulu speaking Mangaloreans) and is served at weddings, parties and special occasions. I think Pinky recommended this one. Loved it!
Rawas gassi - gassi is a Mangalorean style curry, rawas is the fish in it. Whatever kind of fish a rawas may be, this was the spiciest fish curry ever! Thanks for a great dinner, Pinky and Sanjib!!

Oh god this is too much. There's not much I miss about being around Edinburgh - but a decent curry is definitely one of them - and that spread looks AMAZING. All of it. Oh no I can't cope.......
you mean the thali? because the other curries, tasty as they were, are SO not photogenic :) - you must really be missing them if they look good to you! Try and take comfort in some haggis panini...
